Our Mission

Total Balance Physical Therapy and Fitness is a combination outpatient physical therapy clinic and fitness center in the FM Area. We specialize in getting you back to doing the things you love! Our goal is to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and wellness.

At Total Balance we offer outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition therapy, personal training, group fitness classes, body screening, a fully stocked fitness center, and much more! Check out our facilities today! We accept all major insurances.

 

Meet Our Team

Physical Therapist

Daniel Johnson PT, DPT

Graduate of the University of North Dakota's DPT program. Dan worked at a skilled nursing facility in Fargo and then at an outpatient PT clinic in Wahpeton, ND prior to taking over Total Balance Fitness and Nutrition in 2017, to add high quality physical therapy services to the north Fargo community. Dan has over 200 hours of continuing education hours and has taken courses on how to manage everything from seniors to athletes. He is also SFMA and dry needling certified. He recently became one of the few therapists in the area who is certified in blood flow restriction (BFR) training. Dan has a true love of learning, fitness, philosophy and football. Dan and his wife, live in Fargo with their two kids.

Physical Therapist

Mark Laraway PT, DPT

Mark is a graduate of the DPT program at the University of North Dakota. Following graduation, Mark worked for a contract company in Omaha, NE and then at a private practice clinic in Breckenridge, MN. He joined Total Balance in December, 2017, specializes in the treatment of post surgical rehabilitation, and is certified in blood flow restriction training. Mark enjoys all sports, but especially hockey and soccer. He rarely misses a home hockey game at his Alma mater, UND. Mark is an avid weight lifter and loves working out on a daily basis. He currently lives in West Fargo.

Alex Wohl PT, DPT

Graduate of the University of North Dakota’s DPT program. Alex worked primarily in the home health setting for a contract company before becoming Director of Rehab of Home Health covering contracts from Fargo to Alexandria, MN. In 2019 he switched roles back to being a treating Physical Therapist in the FM area to work closer to his home in Fargo. He joined Total Balance in March 2021 and specializes in in-home rehabilitation including neurological disease management, fall prevention, home modification, community reintegration, and custom wheelchair evaluations. Alex enjoys being outdoors at the lake with his wife and son.

Tyler Groth PT, DPT

Tyler grew up in Fargo, ND where he graduated from Fargo South High School in 2008. Tyler attended NDSU and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences. He went on to graduate from the University of Jamestown in May, 2017 as a Doctor of Physical therapy. Tyler enjoys treating in the orthopedic setting, working with people of all ages, and has special interests in neurological and sports rehab. He is certified in the LSVT BIG program, a specialty program for Parkinson’s disease and other neurological impairments. He is also certified in Clinical Weightlifting through ClinicalAthlete and Dry Needling through the Hobbs Masters Needling Series. Away from the clinic, Tyler enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially at the lakes during the summertime. Before beginning his college education, Tyler spent 2 years playing Junior A hockey in Canada and the US. He participates in adult sports leagues including hockey and softball. Other hobbies include golf, fishing, and weight lifting.

Anthony Charbonneau PT, DPT, OCS

Graduated from the University of North Dakota’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2016. Following graduation, Anthony got accepted into Sanford Health’s Orthopedic Residency Program. After successful completion of the residency he was eligible to sit for his exam to earn his credential as a Board-Certified Orthopedic Physical Therapist (OCS). He successfully passed this to become 1 of 31 orthopedic-certified PTs in the state of ND. Anthony specializes in orthopedics from the top of the head to the bottom of the foot utilizing advanced manual therapy skills coupled with high-level clinical reasoning for therapeutic exercise selection. He also offers treatments for more niche populations including return to sport, TMD (jaw pain), pelvic floor dysfunction, post-surgical, and vestibular dysfunction.

James Muir, PT, DPT Cert MDT

James is a graduate of the DPT program at the University of North Dakota. Prior to joining the staff at Total Balance, he worked as a Rehab Director for a private practice in Idaho. James specializes in back pain, neck pain, and also has experience with post-surgical rehabilitation, general orthopedics, and sports medicine. James is also a Certified McKenzie Therapist. James grew up familiar with the Physical Therapy profession as both his mother and sister are Physical Therapists. James is certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), which is also known as the McKenzie method.  This is a system of evaluating and treating spinal disorders as well as problems with the joints or muscles of the arms or legs. James enjoys learning and listening to podcasts on different Physical Therapy topics as well as on nutrition. He also enjoys CrossFit, hunting, fishing, golfing, spending time at the lake, and spending time with his family and friends.

Mikaela Dick, PT, DPT

Mikaela is a 2018 graduate from the University of North Dakota's Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Following graduation, Mikaela worked at an outpatient Physical Therapy clinic in Littleton, Colorado. She then joined the Total Balance team in 2020 when she moved back to North Dakota, where she is originally from. Mikaela has completed continuing education courses since graduating, including Dry Needling, Pelvic Floor dysfunction, and Rock Tape, among others. In her free time, Mikaela enjoys being with family and friends, being active with activities such as hiking, running, and skiing, and trying new things. Mikaela loves treating a variety of patients and athletes of all ages!

Emily Chenoweth, OT

Emily graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri with a Master's of Occupational Therapy. She worked in an acute care hospital before traveling around the country as a contract occupational therapist. Emily joined the Total Balance team in 2023. She is passionate about assisting clients reach their highest level of independence. Emily lives in Fargo with her husband and dog. Emily enjoys running, reading, trying new restaurants and food with her husband, and taking walks with her dog.

Connor Teske, PT, DPT

Connor graduated from the University of Mary Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2020. Prior to starting at Total Balance in 2021, he worked in an outpatient physical therapy practice in Valley City, ND. Connor enjoys treating in the orthopedic setting, and working with patients of all ages. To assist in a detailed approach to treatment and assessment, Connor has received certifications in SFMA, Graston Technique, LSVT, and Dry Needling through the Spinal Manipulation Institute.  Outside of the clinic, Connor and his wife live in Fargo with their rescue dog. They enjoy getaways to the lake and spending time together with friends and family

Joshua Still PT, DPT

Josh is a graduate of the University of North Dakota's DPT program. Josh was raised and graduated high school in Perham, MN where he competed in football, basketball, and baseball with a special interest in both baseball and resistance training. After graduate school he has worked in outpatient settings where he had the opportunity to work with many orthopedic conditions ranging from post-surgical rehabilitation to balance deficits with a special interest in return to sport and weight training. Josh is level II certified in dry needling and has additional training in manual therapy techniques addressing soft tissue restrictions with an emphasis on neck pain and headaches. Josh and his wife moved to Fargo in 2020 where they enjoy active lifestyles participating in softball, football, golf, pickleball, trail riding, basketball, snowboarding, weight lifting, traveling, and spending weekends at the lake.

Alissa Elwing, PT, DPT

Alissa graduated from Carroll University in Waukesha, WI with her Bachelors in Exercise Science and Doctorate of Physical Therapy. After graduation she worked in skilled nursing, outpatient, and home health settings in Wisconsin, prior to moving to ND and joining the Total Balance team in 2022. She enjoys treating the adult population and also has a strong interest in the mind-body connection so is additionally a certified meditation and mindfulness teacher. Outside of work Alissa enjoys spending time with friend and family, volunteering at Homeward Animal Shelter, spending time outside, reading, working out, and learning about a variety of topics.

Katlyn Buethner, PT, DPT

Katlyn grew up in Hillsboro North Dakota where she was involved in sports and academics. From there, she attended the University of Jamestown to pursue a degree in Biology and play softball. After graduation in 2019, she continued her education at University of Jamestown where she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2022. Katlyn has received certifications in Dry Needling and Graston Technique. In her free time, Katlyn enjoys being outside in any season, from fishing, going to the lake, and hiking in the summer, to hunting and bonfires in fall, to even enjoying winter by snowboarding and ice fishing.

Aaron Seefeldt, PT, DPT

Aaron graduated in 2023 from the University of North Dakota’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program and soon after joined the Total Balance team. He enjoys working with all age groups and helping each individual regain their strength and mobility, and improve their overall well-being. Aaron has received training in pain science education, joint mobilizations and manipulations, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilizations, and cupping. He is also LSVT BIG certified, which is a program designed to help patients with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions. When Aaron is not at work, he loves watching basketball, golf, and football. He stays active by working out, running, and golfing. In his free time, he enjoys spending quality time with friends and family.

Matthew Bakken PT, DPT

Matt is a graduate of the University of North Dakota DPT program. He grew up in Bismarck ND, with one sister. He has his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification; which allows him to specialize in weightlifting geared towards athletes of all ages. He has a background in personal training and running competitively at the collegiate level. He enjoys working with active individuals and getting people back to enjoying their hobbies or other pursuits in life. He enjoys spending his free time playing golf, weightlifting, reading, and going to the lake on the weekends.

Austin Ellis, OT

Austin grew up in Stanley, ND, and graduated from Stanley High School in 2017.  He then went to Minot State University for two years, and upon touring UND's occupational therapy program, knew it was the right fit for him. Austin graduated from the OTD program at the University of North Dakota in 2023. He enjoys being able to help people become more independent and find happiness through meaningful occupations in their day-to-day lives.  Outside of work, Austin likes being outside either playing golf, riding motorcycle, hanging out with his girlfriend, or playing with their dog.

Karyssa Mickelson, PT, DPT

Karysaa earned her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from North Dakota State University in 2019, followed by a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks in 2022. Throughout her clinical journey, she has compassionately cared for both adult and pediatric patients, addressing a spectrum of conditions including vertigo/dizziness, neurological disorders, back pain, sensory impairments, and fall prevention. Originally from Hawley, MN, Karysaa finds joy in various activities such as reading, horseback riding, hiking, hunting, volleyball, and cherishing moments with her loved ones

Macy Gress, RDN, LRD

s interested her the most because she enjoys connecting and building relationships with people. She joined the Total Balance team in 2024 and is most excited to teach patients about nutrition science and how to incorporate sustainable healthy habits into their life. Inside of dietetics, she has a passion for sports nutrition, eating disorders, and nutrition education. Macy believes in an overall wellness connection between consistent nutrition and daily movement to promote optimal health. Outside of work, Macy enjoys spending as much time outside as she can, which usually consists of going on long runs and walks, golfing, listening to podcasts or reading, and spending quality time with friends and family. Macy’s office is located within our West Fargo clinic.

Brant Bohmert, PT, DPT

Brant graduated from the University of Jamestown's Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2024. He is skilled in joint mobilizations and manipulations and has pursued additional training in Blood Flow Restriction exercise. Brant is dedicated to helping people of all ages regain their functional abilities, viewing himself as a movement optimist. His background in personal training and collegiate football further fuels his dedication to assisting athletes. In his free time, Brant enjoys playing recreational volleyball and basketball and staying active with regular workouts.

Aaron Proefrock, PT, DPT

Aaron grew up in Western New York and attended High School in North Tonawanda. He went to undergrad at University at Buffalo and then attended Daemen University where he received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2020. When the pandemic hit, Aaron moved to Wyoming and practiced physical therapy in an outpatient clinic in Gillette, WY. He met his wife while working in Wyoming and they recently moved back to Fargo, ND to be closer to family and friends. Aaron is pursuing additional Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment training, also known as the McKenzie Method. He has over 3 years of experience in outpatient sports medicine and neurologic rehabilitation. He enjoys treating patients with neck and back pain, lower extremity joint injuries/ pain, concussions, and dizziness.
